Maybe it's intentional so to ensure interested buyers won't bypass the Lexus IS/RC and go to the Toyota 86 just because the 86's front bumper looks nicer than the Lexus IS/RC hourglass front

Sometimes you wonder what their marketing/designers are thinking...

Take a look at the BRZ - you may like that front better and it's got nicer interior anyway, at least when compared to the North American version of the 86.
