No, I have never turned on the feature that shows what gear the MT is in. I just seem to know what gear it is in by the sound of the engine and speed of the car.
Except, occasionally, when I try to take off in 3rd gear, thinking I'm in 1st gear. My FR-S don't like to do that .....

That "best gas mileage" upshift indicator is a handy reminder to me that it's ok to short shift. Also, all the guys driving automatics are hovering around the same engine RPM.
My opinion on the subject of lugging has evolved since owning this new high-tech machine. I still sweat low oil pressure but have come around to the idea of staying within the lower torque bump if I'm just cruising in traffic.
