I never said that.
I said less than 7 seconds to 60 is a reasonable benchmark (ideally 6 flat or just over).
If the car cannot get out of it's own way, it's not going to be hit.
The FT-86 is only a theoretical competitor with the Miata, which is a 2-seater roadster. The MRS was a direct competitor for that niche, and in a similar price range, and it is no longer with us.
Toyota's FT-86 is going to be competing with other sporty cars that cost about the same (inlcuding, ironically, the Subaru variant) -- period. That is the market. It will be too expensive for the Scion crowd who will continue to buy coilovers for their hideously ugly, slow toasters.
