Major Appliances actually weigh a lot less than they used to. Difference is, they are often much larger, as in current refrigerator designs...therefore more difficult to get through doorways.

Attached illustration is of one like my family used to own. Way smaller than current ones, yet weighed over 300#. Not fun when it had to be barged off an island along with 5 other major appliances, all newer, each of which weighed much less.
