not really about the money. Plus if you keep the car a decade or longer you will eventually recoup the money. But if a tune can get better performance and get better gas mileage it is a win-win and that is wonderful. I always assumed a tune would get worse gas mileage and since my car is a dd I'm totally not interested in that.
my last car, a Yaris, I spent a few grand on things that lightened up the car, made it much more fun to drive, and helped me get much better gas mileage. It is fun to brag about getting 50 mpg in a fun to drive car.
