Nah. The actuaries have already forecast that accident. The rest of us have already paid for it before it happens.

File the claim. You're not taking money out of anybody's pocket. He did that himself. He damaged your car. It's his responsibility to make you whole. If he doesn't make you whole, he's taking money out of your pocket, and you're paying for his mistake (or driving a car with damage he caused).

If you had been at fault, you would be the one paying. This time it's his turn.

Every time any of us drive, we take the financial risk that we could be at fault for an accident and have to pay for damage we cause to someone else's property. We buy insurance to reduce (actually share) that financial risk. He has already paid for insurance for that purpose. Use it.
