I usually cruise around 45 in the city in 5th, which keeps my rpm around 2500 ish. I don't like the rpm below 2k as the car does not feel right, and reaching 3k is when i usually shift. I use cruise control for long roads only, or if police are nearby.
A tune does help though, as well as some lightened drivetrain pieces. And be easy on the throttle, only use what you need and don't give too much unless you're in the correct gear.
