The fittings stick out about 3" total, but they are at nearly a 45 deg angle, so about 2 1/8" forward of the filter. Think that's the best you can do -- I even filed down the bump on the oil filler cap to allow me to screw it in with the lines rotated over that last tiny bit toward the drivers side...
