I had an inspector look at 2 Scions with rebuilt title. He found a couple of minor things but says the body work is flawless, looks almost new. Price is at least $5000 less than a comparable car with clean title. There are 2 problems, however, with buying one of these or any other rebuilt title car: 1) difficult if not impossible to buy full coverage insurance, and 2) factory warranty is void on a car with rebuilt title.
I'm actually not clear on how an insurance company even checks for rebuilt title. My insurer has a website with a "Add a New Vehicle" button, click, type in VIN, answer a couple of questions (none involving title), and out pops a quote. Click on Accept and the car is added to the policy. Maybe the insurer checks the vehicle history at some subsequent point?
