Back on the farm, we had this huge barn, that got painted about once every 10 years. Painting time came around when I was about 10 years old.

Yep, to reach up in the gables, my father would use this old, wooden, 2 section ladder (you know the ones with rungs that would turn in the sockets and many of them were repaired with baling wire wrapped around them).

In order to reach up into the gable, he would place the ladder in the bed of our 1.5 ton truck. Since I weighed only about 60 pounds, guess who was sent up the ladder (which was fully extended).

Now, that wasn't too bad, but in order to move the ladder and to save time, my father would bounce the ladder away from the side of the barn, with me on it, while my grandfather pulled the truck up.

Now, I wonder WHY I have acrophobia .........
