You are basically paying for factory R&D and OEM parts quality. I think you probably got to spend more to get better than factory stuff from the same OEMs.

STI stuff it's more tuned for comfort on the street with a few tricked parts, for the track the TRD catalog has way more options like typical aftermarket offerings.

I would say if you go with a short shifter, you should also change to a more stable clutch and stiffer sprung clutch cover. Otherwise you might go crazy when driving it fast with just a short shifter while the stock clutch isn't quick engaging to keep up IMHO.
