Its like asking why brake lights dont come on when you're not braking.

Original purpose of DRLs was to enhance safety by providing a visual signal during daytime to others that your car is moving towards them.
This is also why they normally turn off when low beams come on (also because those bright LEDs may be blinding to some).

Things change with time though, not sure what default DRL settings for other cars are.
I personally wish it wasnt this way, just to make it easier to take pictures of my car with the DRL on, but oh well.

Also.. why e-brake at a stop light... still learning MT on hills?
The aesthetic of the car was a reason but it's not that serious for me. Ebrake at stop lights is because my commute to work has stupidly long red lights and I noticed the DRLs turning off from the reflection off the car in front.

I was just seeing if there was a 5-10 min adjustment. If not, whatever.
