At least in the listings I've seen so far, the BRZ is a couple of thousand more than the FR-S. Is that usually the case?

The BRZ holds its value a bit better and the Limited trim packs many additional features that were not available on the FR-S (unless it was one of the limited series).
BRZ Premium = FR-S Base (BRZ adds HID lights, some minor differences but pretty much the same)
BRZ Limited is the higher trim that may command a 1-2k price premium, which might be worth it if you value these features.
