I doubt he mentioned it hoping someone would start lecturing him on how he should spend his money.
In the context of his post, I figured he mentioned it because he was hoping for some input from some more experienced car buyers on whether the particular deal he posted about was a good one. As in:
brock3798: "I'm a less experienced car buyer, and a lot of people here have more experience buying cars than I do. Is this $19K 2014 BRZ a good deal?"
Burrcold: "You're too young to have a second car. I couldn't afford two cars when I was 18. Since I'm jealous, for you to have a second car is obviously irresponsible."
