Hmm. This car is meant to use 0W-20 oil.
We are also able to use 5W-30 if 0W-20 is unavailable or for top ups but the book says to go back to the thinner stuff at the next oil change.
Apart from fuel consumption, what, if any, downsides are there for the 5W-30? It is less expensive, and easier to come by, and could be expected to give greater protection. The poorer consumption would be offset by the difference in cost and possible long-term wear benefit. Does the thick stuff mess with variable valve timing?
Has anyone changed to 5W-30 and noticed a significant increase in fuel consumption.
