I have had my badges changed for a couple years now and no issues, so as many others have said you can change your badges to anything you want them to be as long as your license and registration is unaltered (obviously).
Case in point, I was just pulled over yesterday for going 60 on a country road that they had just recently brought to 40 for 1 block for shits and giggles
. The officer did not question the badges on the car, although he did ask me what model Toyota it was - looks like the moron couldn't read
