Going from the MY17 BRZ document that was posted up here somewhere, the engine changes are:
Increased cylinder block rigidity
Greater piston durability
Changed valve stem finish
Improved roughness of camshaft journals
Optimized fuel pump drive cam
Optimized internal shape of rocker arm pivots
Changed shape of fuel system components
Changed fuel pressure sensor
Upgraded to next-generation fuel pump
Changed shape and material of intake manifold
Optimized flow channels of air intake system
Changed specifications of air cleaner element
Changed shape of EPF (Exhaust Manifold)
Changed material of EPC-R (Front Pipe)
Changed material and shape of exhaust pipe system
Changed specifications of cam angle sensor plate
Changed ECU hardware
Changed engine harness
Changed material of oil spacer
Changed specifications of alternator
Installed new battery condition sensor
Changed specifications of crank angle sensor
Changed shape of crank angle sensor plate
Changed diagnostic specifications of O2 sensor

So no, not many changes. My interested to see the intake system and exhaust manifold changes, both will probably end up being cheap to buy from those that replace them and might see some benefit. Also would like to see what change in O2 sensor, have they gone for a true WBO2 like many others do these days, or just changed the logic in the ECU?
