The express train take 10 minutes, there's about 12 trains leaving per hour during rush hours. It'd be much, much cheaper.

Still, I hate taking the train. Walking to the station in rain and snow (not far), cramming up to disgusting, smelly strangers.
Unable to swing by the shops or friends on the way home, and the feeling of always being a few seconds too late to catch the next train.

So, I drive. I try to avoid peak traffic, and having lived here for a while I know which routes are least congested at every hour of every day.

I hate trains. I loathe buses. I dislike taxis. I want to be in control, I want to go where I want to be and I want to leave when I'm good and ready.
For the long trips I want to be able to pull over and take a leak whenever I want. And I want to be able to stretch the speed limits and get where I need to be literally hours before the bus arrives.

Autonomous cars will be about as efficient and tedious as our trains and buses are now. I will not enjoy it.
Don't get me wrong, if public transit was a viable option for me, I'd look into it. But Europe is miles and miles ahead of North America when it comes to that.

I also entirely understand about doing what you want on your own schedule, but if cars can network with each other, all you'll need to do is hit the "piss" button on the dash, and it'll pull over for you.

It's not all doom and gloom. It'll make the roads safer and more efficient. By then, VR will have come a long way and you can have a sweet virtual driving rig in your home haha
