Talking with some older guys at a massive event that's going on this week geared towards classic, and with a buddy of mine who owns a 280Z, these are a few conclusions we've come across.
Most of these "classics" that are really cool looking and loved were *just* a car. Everybody had one. The BelAir, Model T, old Pickups, etc... most get scrapped, and the ones that remain become loved and people get nostalgia for it. The really bad ones fade out of existence (Mustang II comes to mind).
The Z car was a very popular and well loved car - a single production year saw sales that dwarfed the entire production run of the FR-S (and even more so, the BRZ). Our first-run cars will start to disappear in about 10 years, and will be just as hard to find in 20 or 30 years, just like the Z.
Also, a side note - the Ford Flex will be a cool car in 20, 30 years. Just watch. :P
