For me, I am merely posting what I've observed with my '15 FR-S. I am rather happy with the figures as my previous S/C E46 M3 was far more thirsty. I''m still new to the platform as I was a Bimmer guy for over 8 years. Considering the contact patch is 245mm at all four corners on 200 UTQG tires, the mpg is decent.

Funny enough as I was going through my old collection of magazines I spotted this excerpt from an article in D-Sport (August 2012 Issue #118): Second Drive: 2013 Scion FR-S It's On Sale Now (Text by Michael Ferrara)

What's the Buzz About?: Since the Nevada highway provided the opportunity to maintain high road speeds, we noticed that the engine speed with the 6-speed manual transmission was pretty significant. At a steady 85 mph, the tachometer registered 3,650 RPM. This is considerably higher than most vehicles today, especially those with more than five forward gears. Why is the cruise RPM so reminiscent of a B16-equipped Civic Si? Quite simply, Toyota engineers dedicated all six speeds in the transmission to performance driving. Where a number of vehicles have a fifth and sixth gear dedicated to low-RPM cruising to maximize fuel mileage, the manual equipped FR-S makes no such concession. Fifth gear is setup for a one-to-one ratio while sixth offers a 0.767-to-1 overdrive ratio.

Automatic Solution: On the contrary, the automatic-equipped Scion FR-S offers a more conservative cruise RPM in its top gear. At 85 mph, the tachometer reads just 2,750 RPM in sixth. Fourth provides the 1-to-1 ratio while fifth is a 0.713-to-1 overdrive, offering more overdrive than the manual transmission's sixth gear. The automatic's sixth gear delivers a significant 0.582 overdrive that helps cut 900 RPM from the engine cruising speed at 85 mph versus the manual. The significantly lower cruise RPM is the primary reason for the automatic-equipped FR-S's increased highway fuel economy, rated at 34 MPG over the manual-equipped 30 MPG. Hence the automatic's range is about 50 miles further per tank with highway driving or about 40 miles further with city or combination driving.
