Just to check that it isn't coil binding (it is the wrong term, but been used in the industry for a long time).
Basically if there isn't some type of "relieve" for the springs to allow it to turn, it will twist on itself and "pop" back out making a noise.

There are a few fix for something like this, but the most common fix is having a type of roller bearing either on the springs or the spring cap.

Just another thing to check, what coilovers is it?
