I have, and soon as I got out of the twisties and onto the straight, I fell asleep. Going to need boost to tickle my fancy. Torque gives you the "put you back in the seat" feeling. Hence why I'm not that happy about the N/A 2.0L boxer. Never had been since the first mention of it's power plant.
What he was getting at though was from a daily driver standpoint. In order to feel any performance from the car, you are going to have to push in the high rpms to feel that inspiration. Doing that on the streets makes you look like a ricer running around reving his engine screaming how you have 8k or so rpms. Torque'er cars give you that performance inspiration without causing unwanted attention to yourself.
