-____- Definitely have your advanced friend along for at least the first couple heats. It'll be tough to hear each other unless you have those helmet intercom thingys.
If you don't have anyone along to keep you honest then don't even worry about going fast. Work on track etiquette. Remember to look for the flaggers. Always give them a friendly wave on the cool-down lap.

If you catch yourself making mistakes due to fatigue, pit. By my fourth heat I was already done. My instructor pushed me hard but it was an amazing, humbling experience.
