Adam_L your break in philosophy and mine differ a bit.
I pretty much go along with what the manual recommends. Keep the revs below 4,000 RPMs and vary the speed for the first 1,000 miles and change the oil at 7,500 miles. After, 1,000 miles, I (not the manual) recommend not running it up past 6,500 RPMs.
I figure changing the oil (under normal use) more often than one time before 7,500 miles just puts undue wear and tear on the threads of the drain plug ....
By not going over 4,000 RPMs after break in ....... you will never beat that mustang at the light ......
