To break in the car properly, that would be the first 5000 miles. Do three oil changes at 1000 , 2500, and 5000 miles. The large majority of the time you really don't want to go over 4k rpms when shifting (eats more gas going over 4k rpms , plus it's best to keep the rpms low when breaking in the car).
