So, bit of an oddball situation. I was recently testing some fancy new LED switchbacks in my turn signals, and one of them decided to not be one piece anymore.
Current theory is that something in the LED's circuit board got rattled too hard and shorted. It continued to overheat until it must have caught fire a little bit and melted at the base. It blew two fuses on the way out, tail-turn and hazard-blinker. It even charred the socket quite a bit so I had to pick up a new one.
I've got a new bulb in, another LED (I know, right?) but these have more of a proven track record so fingers crossed. Anyway, my main problem now is that the turn signal housing/lens has some charring and burnt glue residue in it now. I guess you could say I have naturally smoked turns now.
I managed to clean up a bit of the residue with some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush, but it's still pretty clear that a party went on in there. I'd really rather not have to remove my front bumper, bake open the lens (I think it's been cooked enough), and clean it that way. Anyone have any ideas to clean it out a little better? I was thinking maybe a wire brush with some goo gone.
