I know this thread is long dead, but I am reminded of my 1972 VW Squareback. Somewhere in a trash heap I found a Corvair badge: in cursive, and designed to be mounted with a rising slant. Of course, being rear engine, aircooled and all, I removed the VW badge on the back and replaced it with the Corvair. I was pretty proud of my little in-joke, and I still smile about it.
Do you suppose it's a matter of downgrading the car with an inferior badge that makes it funny? Actually, I think the Subaru badge on an 86 is pretty funny, too. When people say "Subaru? Really?" I wish I had the gumption to answer, "Yeah, it's the new two-seater Outback! It has hydraulic stilts for offroad stuff!" But going with Lexus badges seems to be less funny to me. Somehow it's like social climbing.
