My guess is to offset the extra grip of the tires and retain more of the native handling...

For that matter, the 35 PSI for the rears on a wider tire is effectively a higher pressure! (e.g same pressure over a larger area...)

That's my armchair physicist analysis, and I'm sticking to it.
