They did actually have a "VON number" on the paper though. And that dealer is actually one of the higher rated ones.
I do agree with you though I would rather pay more to have peace of mind but since I already settled my business elsewhere I guess I will just have to stick with it.

I highly doubt that what they showed you was an actual verification of order since there is not a hope that even the computerized systems of today would have that back so fast. If anything it was simply a reply that the request had been received. An actual VON could take hours, days or even weeks to receive since although the system may be on computers actual people have to verify the info and enter the data and that takes time. Ordering a car (even for a dealer) is not the same as picking something on Ebay, clicking agree and waiting for it to appear in the mail. That car has to be scheduled into the production, made to your requests and then shipped. Since there are over a 100,000 of them shipped world wide this is not a 5 minute exchange.
It is very easy to build a relationship with a GOOD dealer since they will remember you (believe it or not they do) and if you are a good customer then they want to keep you. I am lucky and have a great dealer. How do I know that? well, the average time a salesman has worked there is 15 years. In the car sales business people do not last long at a bad dealer. Bad dealers rip off their staff as much as the customer so good salespeople never last long. You want to find a good dealer then just talk to 3 or 4 sales people and ask how long they have been there. If the majority are under 5 years say thanks and walk away. People get all caught up in price for cars but I would rather spend $500 or $1000 more at a good dealer and know I will be taken care of than save that money and find I was just another quick buck.
