Serial number is simply a ID given to it before it arrives at port for the VIN. Most of the time it's pretty close to like the last 7-8 numbers of the VIN.
BTW, VIN will show in the dealer inventory system once the car has been processed at the port. Normally the VIN populates right as the car is about to leave A (Allocation Status) and move to F (Freight) Status.

Just found out that it's actually on a boat on it's way to Portland. Wonder how long that takes.
They said they could provide me a VIN when it hits "G" Status in the port.
Unfortunately, I do not have the serial number
