If you need to drive this car in winter, you need winter tires. Period. The stock tires suck in any type of snow. Weight in the trunk and good throttle control helps tremendously as well.


As for AWD, yes it helps, but it is not a cure-all. Most people have winter setups for those as well. Having said that, I have a daily driver forester and it is pretty much unbeatable for almost any situation.
