Something just occurred to me.
The common denominator in all these interesting replies is what we're driving.
Think about it. Fella driving the expensive 4x4, the redneck in the old pickup, the kid who thinks his clapped out hatchback is kickass, soccer dad's minivan full of chillun', the uninsured punk driving junk - the list can go on and on.
Although our rides could be classified as slow, cheap and small, they are perceived as exotic to the uninitiated due to their styling and relative rarity, and they look bloody fast. They garner attention, they have 'road presence', and there is an immediate envy factor upon sighting one of us, especially if we're perceived to be a 'threat' (such as needing to merge).
I think that we experience an abnormally high amount of pejorative interference merely as a result of the way we look.
It is clearly road ragism.
