Are you sure you went the right way on the adjustment ..... ??

If you set the emergency, put it in 2nd gear, rev to about 2,000 rpm, then slowly let out the clutch ...... if that doesn't kill the engine, there is a good chance the clutch is out of adjustment or is wore out.
