^this. The point of a track is for it to be a safe place to go fast. A place where the only people on the surface you are driving on are people who are there to all do the same thing. Don't have to worry about animals running across traffic, kids falling into the street, bicyclists being caught in the next corner apex, etc...

All I have to worry about is the other drivers who are half my age with one tenth of my driving/racing experience, and the fact that I am totally uncovered by insurance during the entire event. That is plenty enough risk.
Oh, and your comment about animals is kind of cute. Except for the fact that I struck a deer in the mid 80s while road racing a GSXR at SIR. Never say never.
