The TREAD Act requires that all passenger vehicles sold in the United States after September 1, 2007 have a tire pressure monitoring system that alerts the driver to low pressure if the pressure in a tire drops below 75% of the pressure posted on the door placard. Some cars do have sensors that report the actual pressure for display on the dash. Our cars are not among them. Ours just tell the car when the tire drops below the statutory threshold.

Not necessary, but required by federal law.
