Coyote Engine Swap
There is no mention of the RS-R car built with the Coyote Engine. They used an Aluminator X motor which is very expensive, but a standard Coyote or a Boss 302 motor would be plenty of power at 400 and something HP.
Still the price of a swap is going to cost a lot of cash. RS-R did say that the motor fit like it was meant to be there all the time. Ford AC unit and condenser fit as well. With a Crate motor that's new and a rebuilt 6 speed trans you are looking at $9,300 with wiring harness. The AC unit, alternator, hoses, plugs, belts will be another $2,000. ECU integration with Motec is probably almost $6,000. Driveshaft $600. Custom headers and exhaust could be $3,000. Then the labor and all the other things like new Radiator, tune. That will cost you a minimum of $5,000.
Let's just say $30,000 for a brand new Crate Motor Coyote swap. That a lot of money. You could buy a used second car for that money. But you could also do the build for $10k - $15k cheaper with used motor and your own labor doing the job yourself or with your mechanic using used parts.
For cheaper you could do the Cosworth Supercharger kit. It seems to be the best with increased low end torque and low heat soak. Jackson Racing has a higher RPM solution that is easy to install. So here is a $7k - $11k solution that could be done by your mechanic in a day or 2. You could be driving your car right away. Engine swap would probably be 4 months.
When I see the swap or supercharge upgrade, I know that I'm going to do one of them in the future. I'm not in a rush, but to me this is a keep car that I don't think the auto industry will ever build anything better to suit an upgradeable car. This car is the "sheet" for handling, and it just begs to have something done to it someday. For now I'm so happy with the car over 4 years later of driving it. I have a Roush with the Coyote engine and I tell ya. That motor is the best V8 motor when it revs out to redline. Just love those double overhead cams screaming. Cosworth seems to be what my mind is leaning towards. The handling will still be there. That can be a worry with V8 swaps. That all for now. Just wanted to dip into the swap pond with you guys.
