I turn my steering wheel all the way both to left and right multiple times a week when I park in my favorite stall at work, but it never made any clicking sound. So, it's not your overactive imagination.
One thing you might want to try. Try unlocking the lock of the steering wheel. The one you unlock to adjust the height of the steering wheel. And see if the clicking noise goes away. My steering wheel was making a clicking noise while I was driving. When I did that, the noise went away.
