Then maybe the shops should look up the damn codes instead of whining about how hard it is. Any paint shop that goes by the name of the color is asking for trouble, since Subaru loves to remix the colors just a tiny bit and then call it by almost the same name.

Asheville is not that big; I would expect some flimflammery here, but when the front of my Sterling Silver Metallic (2014) BRZ got stove in by the welded steel bumper and footlong hitch of an immovable pickup truck (yeah, yeah, I ran into it to the tune of $7500), the best one of our local shops rebuilt me so immaculately, 100% Subaru, it would be a shame to say it was in a wreck. And yes, the three-coat paint matches perfectly. It's only money -- I was lucky to have good insurance.

But it can't be that hard to find a reputable and highly skilled body shop who will work with you without charging you the surrender of your firstborn. Best of luck to you. I know this feels like an injury to a family member.
