This is absurd in its generality. Financing a car is not necessarily tantamount to "pretending to be rich." A lot of people (probably many on this forum) finance their car. And why not, if you can get a greater ROI elsewhere?

Confronting strangers at car meets to vindicate your suspicions about their "true" socio-economic status doesn't make you cool. It makes YOU look insecure and pathetic.
