edit: for brand new springs lets say $250 USD or $325 CAD + 2 hrs install (if not more) @$90 puts you at ~$500. Lets add in an allignment also to properly adjust everything for the lower height for another $100 puts you at $600. Oh lets add tax of 13% too for the total around $700. Of course if hes talking about buying used and doing it DIY then a lot less. Otherwise my numbers arent so "random"

I just had springs installed this week. $300 for parts, $200 for labour, $100 for alignment. So you're not wrong.
