Since you mentioned Cisco (just to entertain this thought), how much would my CCNA R&S transfer over to security? I know Cisco has the CCNA Security cert which interested me about 2 years back.
You'll need to know the base concepts of R&S, but it mostly builds on it. Specifically it talks about ASAs, NGFW/IPS, ISE, cloud services, and VPN. nothing too specific, just basic concepts (e.g. stateful and zone firewalls, BPDU guard, AV). Good news is, if you have your R&S, you meet the pre-req.

Also depends upon what you want to do. There is the networking aspect, but you can also get into forensic analysis, AV management, or vulnerability assessment / pen testing. Check out getting a CEH as well. That one is just fun.
