Crewchief never answered my question whether it was a manual or automatic, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here, assume it's a manual and say that I suspect what he's smelling is not mold or stuff burning in the A/C system or any of that, but just plain old burning clutch stink from the clutch breaking in. It'll stink like that for many thousands of miles, and the way it comes up through the car makes it seem like it's coming from the A/C system.
Now he'll probably return and say it's an automatic and destroy that theory, but until he does that's my guess.
