And besides, there are unexpected events where it might save someone, regardless of skill, such as an emergency lane change. No one, no matter how skilled, can brake one side of the car to straighten it out (as stability control will).

Depends on the car. The built in TC is so poor on my Supra it's dangerous to leave it on. I have to yank the fuse, because even disabled it will override and go into snow mode sometimes. Not exactly safe when you've gone for a gap in traffic, and suddenly the car drops from full revs and boost to more like low gear in a tractor.
IMO Relying on electronics to do your job for you, in anything in life, is not a good plan. At the least you should practice without it to get an idea of what will happen if your nannies fail.
