It sounds to me more like they are waiting to miraculously be given a car in the same spec that I want, rather than ordering a car specifically for me. Someone who knows what they're talking about...should I be worried?

Nardi330 is right. Also ask them to provide you with a web tracking login details as soon as they receive the details, so you can track your car's progress.
