My 2016 BRZ just started doing this... I didn't hear a peep for the first 3000 miles, I just hit 3100 and I hear it now. I've been putting 91 octane fuel in it since I bought it. I also have the issue where my RPM drops to 400-600 randomly at idle, but it's never stalled itself and I considered it to be normal operation of the motor.
