I just want to make a side point that other car companies are doing that too. Enthusiasm for cars is generally low and it's more noticeable in Japan because their population is aging but we have a severe lack of enthusiasm in the US for anything with less than 8 cylinders. Big 4 banger companies like Honda are jumping on the Green movement and bleeding off enthusiasts as they go.

Giving away cars and money to bumpstart tuning shops isn't a bad thing. I believe it makes the aftermarket grow faster for a new car .
