Is it the brake indicator with the exclamation mark or ABS in the center of it? If the exclamation mark one then you may have a brake problem. If the ABS one then you are just stopping quick enough for the ABS system to be activating. Would explain why it happens more when cold or panic stops. What tires are you running?
