It definitely isn't needed, but don't start another "handbrake hill start" debate. If you know what you're doing with a manual the handbrake is the proper way to take off now. It is in the vehicle manual.



The hill start assist is just an automatic way of doing that maneuver. That is all it is. I was surprised that my 09 forester had it but my 14 BRZ didn't, lol.
