Was debating that armrest too. Took me a couple days to get used to not whacking this armrest when going for the shifter. But usually my elbow is resting on the armrest so whacking it doesn't really factor into shifting unless my elbow was off the armrest and I needed to shift, like mid turn. Handbrake access is no problem at all. I don't think the armrest was designed specifically for our car. The top part is generic and meant to fit a bunch of cars with different bottom adapters. In person the armrest looks like a good match though. I feel like any bigger/wider might have been a problem though.
