Back to the handbrake-on-hill
I learned to drive in Europe, and I don't remember exactly what I was taught back then. Long time ago. Of course I have no idea what is taught now.
But on my exam I stalled on a very small incline, barely larger than a speed hump. To prevent problems when starting again I intentionally allowed the car to roll back off that hump. The examiner asked me: "what would you do if it was an actual hill" and my response was "I'd use the hand brake" and he said "good", and I passed.
